Seniors,
If you have not yet sent your deposit in, now is the time.
Colleges will assume that you will not be attending their
school if they do not receive your deposit. Don't delay,
put that check in the mail today!!!
Once you have made your deposit, then address an envelope
to the Admission Office at the college you will be attending.
Put on a 44 cent stamp and bring it to the College Office.
The day after graduation I will be mailing your final transcript
to your college. Your college will need to receive your transcript
before you can register for classes.
Bring your addressed and stamped envelope to the College Office.
You are going to college!!!!!

Unique NYC Public High Schools College Fair
Hello Juniors!!
I hope that you have all had a great Spring Break!
I've been thinking so much about the Unique NYC Public High Schools College Fair that will happen this coming Thursday after school, April 28th from 3:45 pm until 5:30 pm.
You will walk over to the Lab School after classes end with your
Advisors. I will be there waiting for you to arrive.
I hope that this event will be a big help in kicking off your college search.
Take the time to check out the colleges that will be present @ www.uniquenyccollegefair.org/
There are going to be almost 100 tables, and each of those Representatives will know about I.C.E.--now tell me---How awesome is that?
A great opportunity to meet the Admission Representatives from colleges that may be
of interest to you. Take the time now to research
the schools: majors, events on campus,
location, opportunities offered, location, cost,
scholarships offered. Explore!!
And remember you'll want to pick up at
least 3 business cards from colleges of interest.
I'm including photos from 3 colleges that will be attending our fair. Visit college websites and check out the photos for yourself.
See you on Wednesday!

Introduction to Naviance from Ariel
A QUICK WEBSITE GUIDE TO NAVIANCE
TO BEGIN:
· On the home page, enter the code that was given to you by Jennifer in your College Bound class.
· Fill out the registration page including your e-mail address and a private password. REMEMBER to write down the password in a safe place. At the bottom of the page, check the box that you agree to the terms of use and click “Complete Registration.”
·
· (NOTE: When you log-in in the future, your user name is your e-mail address and your password is the one you established when registering. If you change your e-mail address at any point, remember to update it in TCCi.)
· The “Welcome” page will appear when your registration is accepted.
TO COMPLETE A COLLEGE SEARCH:
· On the left side of the “Welcome” page is a list of functions that are available on TCCi. Click on “college search” under the “About College” section of the menu on the left-hand side.
· Select factors in any or all of the categories to help narrow down a list of colleges that match your interests. At the end of each page, you can either click “Show Matches” to generate a list OR click “Next” to continue to pick more factors.
· (NOTE: You will notice that the number of schools that matches your criteria constantly appears near the top of the page as you move through the selections.)
· If you end up with too many schools on your list and you need to narrow your list, simply select more factors. You should use the “Previous” button at the bottom of the page if you want to go back to earlier pages/factors. On the other hand, if you end up with too few schools, go back and deselect some of your factors. Again, use the “Previous” button.
· Once you have completed your search, click “Show Matches.”
· Scroll down toward the bottom of the new page. The list of schools that matches your criteria will appear.
· At this point, you will see three pull-down menus. You now have the option to select criteria to compare three different factors for each school on your list.
TO RESEARCH COLLEGES ON YOUR LIST:
· Simply click on a college name that appears on your generated list.
· A new window will open and you will connect to a general information page for that school within Naviance. From this window, you can also research additional information such as admission criteria, extracurricular activities, etc., by using the pull-down menu located to the right of the red “Application History” box.
· To return to your full list of schools and begin researching another school, simply close that window by clicking on the box in the upper left-hand corner.
· To research another school, repeat the above process.
· In order to save your list of colleges, you must manually save each one. To do this, click the “pick” link next to that school on your list of generated schools. That school will show up in the “Hand-Picked List.” Once you’ve selected all of the schools from your college search that you want to save, click the “Add to My Colleges” link directly under the box labeled “Hand-Picked List.”
· (NOTE: To view this list at a later date, click “My Colleges” on the “About Me” menu on the left-hand side.)
WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED:
· Don’t forget to click “Sign Out” in the menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
THIS IS JUST AN INTRODUCTION TO SEVERAL OF THE USEFUL FEATURES OF NAVIANCE. WE HOPE THAT THEY HAVE BEEN HELPFUL. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE MENU AND EXPLORE ALL OF THE OTHER OPTIONS.
If you have questions, or have misplaced your Naviance code, stop by and see me. I am at I.C.E. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Have fun with your college search,
Ariel

Spring Visits
Juniors,
So what do we think of when we think of Spring? College! That's right!
This is an excellent time for you to get out and visit a college.
Here are 3 ideas to get you thinking about a trip.
City College, a beautiful campus, just a short subway ride away. Just log on to the link below and sign up for a tour and information session.
"Come discover the diversity of our college community, the beauty of our campus and the academic excellence that is City College. Join us for a general campus tour that combines a walk through history and a peek into the future. Reservations are required and can only be made by joining our on-line community. Log-in or create your MYCCNY page now.\ "
Or, if you are feeling like getting out of town, head over to Port Authority, jump on a bus and travel up to SUNY New Paltz. The bus drops you off in town and it is an easy walk to campus. Here is the link to sign up for an Information Session and tour:

How about a day in Boston????? ..........and by the way there are about 50 colleges in Boston & the Boston area, so if Northeastern isn't your cup of tea, you can certainly find another campus to visit.
An Explore Northeastern session is two hours and includes a presentation by an admissions counselor and a walking tour of campus. The presentation describes our distinctive academic and experiential programs, and our admission and financial aid process. The campus tour is led by one of our Husky Ambassadors and you'll see academic and research areas, a first-year residence hall, and recreation centers. Explore Northeastern sessions are offered minimally, Monday – Friday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. or most Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
You can easily travel up to Northeastern by Amtrak and take a subway from the Back Bay Station to campus. Information is found on the Northeastern University website.
Visit college websites......when you like what you see.......go visit! If you have questions about planning a trip, stop in the I.C.E. College Office.
Have fun with your college search!

The Envelope Please
Seniors,
Now it is your turn to send the envelope!
Colleges are anxiously awaiting your response, and your deposit.
You have a lot to think about in these next few weeks. This is a decision
that is not made lightly. Perhaps you should take the time to visit or revisit your colleges. Most schools have Accepted Student Days, which will give you a chance to ask a few more questions.
You'll also want to talk things over at home concerning the financial aid packages you received. If you, or your parents have questions concerning paying for college--don't hesitate to call the Financial Aid Office at the college in question.
Think about the location of your college. Are you willing to travel? Take the bus? the plane? or train? How much will it cost to go back and forth?
Once you and your parents/guardian have answered all the questions and your choice
is made, then it is time to deposit. Your deposit check must be sent by May 1. That
check cannot be late, if it is you will likely lose your seat.
The only students that might not deposit on May 1 are EOP students, whose applications
are still pending.
I can't believe this year went so fast.......you'll be graduating soon!

Posse Foundation
I had a great time today down at the New York Posse Foundation....this is what I learned:
The Posse Foundation will be asking College Advisors to nominate students this spring.
I.C.E. will only be able to nominate 6 students.
Posse is looking for students "with extraordinary academic and leadership potential to
become Posse Scholars. These students--many of whom might have been overlooked by traditional
college selection processes--receive four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships from Posse's partner institutions."
The Posse New York Partner Colleges & Universities are:
Students must be willing to go away to college. Students must also be willing to commit to the weekly Posse meetings.

if admitted that decision is binding.
This is a great opportunity. I.C.E. has had 16 Posse Scholars over the years, but be aware it is very competitive.
If you want to know first-hand what the Posse experience is like, go find Marlyn Cabrera (6th grade Humanities teacher). Marlyn not only graduated from I.C.E. but she was a Wheaton College Posse Scholar!........I am proud to have been her College Advisor!
I.C.E. students that wish to be considered for nomination please see Jennifer before the Spring Break.

Register for the SAT I
JUNIORS
Invite your parents/guardians to come to I.C.E. College Night
at 6 pm on Wednesday, April 13
I look forward to meeting them and having a conversation
about the I.C.E. College Process.
Ok, it's time for everybody to take the SAT I. Your rite of passage.
You'll look back on this experience the rest of your life. Don't miss out
on the memory!!
Seriously, you should all take the SAT I (or ACT) this spring and again in the fall. Your best scores are put on your transcript, they can be mixed and matched. Yay! You will need to go to the College Board and register for the SAT I -- or you may go to the ACT website and sign up to take the ACT with writing.
The school code for I.C.E. is: 333672
The deadlines for signing up are approaching, so don't delay.
