A Post from Anastasia!!

I want to share an email I just got from Ana today. Check it out
she has some interesting things to say about her college experience.
And also look at these photos!  Wow!  Ana, thanks so much
for being in touch!  We miss you too!

Hey Jennifer!

How have you been? How is everything back at home base? I miss ICE so much, and lately I can't stop thinking about visiting. I originally wanted to write a blog post for you, and I will, but I'm working for the Union blog Unfiltered for my work-study. Therefore, I am writing like 3 blog posts a week and choosing one to put up. In any case, how are the seniors doing? I heard they started applying to colleges already, I wish them luck.

As for Union college, it's awesome. Aside form the fact that I miss the city, ICE, and my internship, Union is pretty cozy. I have the good luck to live in the only dorm that actually feels and looks like a dorm. My room is pretty big, my roommate is....long story. I'm currently taking three courses, Medical Anthropology, Biology, and Russian Short-Story. It's hard transitioning from High School to College, and I would actually love to talk to the seniors about that when I come by to visit, Josh is setting something like that up. My only concern is the weather here. It changes rapidly during the day, its so mercurial. This is why everybody on campus is chronically sick all day, every day.

The nature is beautiful, you can always see mountains, no matter where you are on campus. It's almost like a dream, especially now. There are so many trees on campus that the streets here look like they came out straight from a movie set. My favorite pastime now is sleeping and going to hockey games. I joined the Union Women's Club hockey team so it's quite different from figure skating which I used to do. The Mens team is D1, so they are amazing to watch, and as freshman many don't understand the traditions of going to a game. From the sayings, to the booing, to the chants, and also the fact that you are not allowed to sit.

In any case, here is a link to the Unfiltered blog if you want to check it out, I had just made two videos for it last week: http://muse.union.edu/unfiltered/

P.S. Here are a few pictures of campus.

Goodbye, ICE!

This week, my class with be graduating. Most of us have spent the past seven years of our lives here, so basically we've spent nearly every day for the past seven years with the same 60 kids. After all this time, you'd think we'd be tired of each other, and ready to get out of here. Well, we are. But even though this is true for a lot of us, I think that in spite of it, we've made friendships that will easily outlast those of students at the average high school.

ICE is an environment that nurtures the growth of our friendships and connections with our fellow students. Instead of suffering through exams, we spent middle and high school supporting each other through panels and presentations that prepared us for college and the real world. We worked together and depended on each other for group projects many times. No matter how angry we got when someone didn't do their powerpoint slides or didn't pass on their neuroscience test subjects, we came out of those experiences as better students and friends.

I'm sure everybody already knows this, but ICE is a special school. We always complain about it, but now that I'm done with high school, I wouldn't have it any other way. I am ready for college, but not only because I'm dying to get out of here, more because ICE prepared me for it. As you can see, I got a lot of good things out of ICE (my best friends, great teachers, and of course an exceptional education). I guess my point is, don't take ICE for granted. You probably won't realize this until graduation is upon you, but this is an awesome school!

This will be my last post as Jennifer's intern. Thanks for reading my posts, and I hope they helped you prepare for college!
